"I salute the people behind Bizster. This is another milestone that SME.com.ph has delved into and I am more than glad that they have changed the way SMEs perceive and conduct their businesses, and Bizster is one brilliant move!"
Lots'A Pizza was born when we were looking for a product we could specialize in. We decided to concentrate on pizza because we found out that it was more popular worldwide than hamburger as a matter of fact there are 3 annual pizza Expos in United States alone (Las Vegas, Chicago and Atlantic City). This piece of information aroused our interest and we decided to develop our own unique pizza.
The year 1996 was the right time to develop the Lots'A Pizza brand because we saw the opportunity to take over the niche, the middle-to-lower income market, vacated by Greenwich. We also wanted to be one step higher than 3M, our closest competitor.
We made it our objective to develop a "Filipino pizza," one whose ingredients and baking process were made by a Filipino and one whose flavor would cater to the Filipino palate. We also wanted to offer an alternative to the more expensive foreign pizzas that dominate the Philippine market.
To achieve this, we decided that we wanted a pizza that would be delicious even without the toppings. I left for the United States in 1996 to study at the A.I.B. Kansas, U.S.A where I undertook a pizza technology course and learned how to make a pizza crust and sauce. The courses taken and the subscription to its technical bulletins have enhanced my basic knowledge on pizza dough formulations, thus enabling Lots'A Pizza to develop its own "perfectly parbaked pie" and distinct sauce using only the best quality ingredients and blend. With years of experience and the investment in new technology and methods, we have managed to maintain and improve the quality of our product.
Since the business was doing well, we decided that in 2000 we were ready to expand through franchising. We constructed a new head office in 2002 that was complete with training facilities, a conference room and a test kitchen. We also invested heavily in the construction of a state-of-the-art commissary. The HACCP-compliant commissary strictly implements current good manufacturing practices and very high standards of sanitation procedures. The commissary now supplies food products to all Lots'A Pizza outlets, which are spread out through Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Our efforts were recognized last year when I was adjudged one of the 10 Best Entrepreneurs in the country by Entrepreneur magazine. This is a major accomplishment indeed after considering all the years spent on developing our product. Earlier this year, we were given another award as we were named the No. 1 Pizza Parlor in Caloocan City by the 2nd National Shoppers' Choice Annual Awards.
Another accomplishment for the company was when I was elected President of the Association of Filipino Franchisers earlier this year. This is indeed in recognition of our achievements in product development as well as in franchising. It is also our little way of giving back to the society because we have achieved so much in such a short span of time.
