Contrary to what has been said about eggs, particularly on food safety, one of the myths that have been going around is the issue on bacteria. That it can get into eggs when shell is cracked and will continue to develop when uncooked. Despite that myth, a business in 1997 was borne out of a dare or a lark as described by Ms. Elaine Lasac, the owner of Goldnest Incorporated.
“I was not even that serious,” Ms. Lasac looks back her early start with the company she put up eight (8) years ago with a capital of a mere Php100, 000.00 from her humble savings. It was her college friends who encouraged her to give it a try. “Looking back, I’m pleasantly surprised that it grew. But I must say, I put in a lot of long hours and hard work.”
She adds, that in all the hardships she went through with this venture, she finds it really fun and there is this sense of adventure for her. She aptly said the risk she made was coupled with a lot of trust as well.

On her first year, her business showed modest profits, her being intrigued with eggs as the primary ingredient in cakes, bread, pastries and other foodstuff pushed her to really make a go for this business model has and it really paid off. She is convinced that selling eggs is such a profitable business.
“The Philippines is an egg-eating country. Asians usually eat egg at least 5 times a week. It sounds like a good deal, right?” as she continue to amuse us with her learning and discoveries.
She didn’t have much difficulty breaking into the market since, only through word of mouth her business performed quite well as she was really taken surprised by it.
“Our company’s vision is to be the first choice among the major egg and egg-product dealers in the country. Our edge of course is our brand of ‘smiling’ and prompt customer service,“ the confident lady proprietor shares their edge over her competition. “Mission is to provide high quality and fresh eggs in the shortest time possible.”
Further on, Lasac adds their advantage over rivals, “We go the extra mile to please our customers. Plus, we have reasonable prices for high-quality eggs.”
Their eggs are harvested from the best farms in the country.
Existing for eight (8) years now, their main goal is really all about expansion. It is their fervent dream—to develop more products, but it somehow, at this point in time a great challenge still.
Yet the formula she believes that made her team going is, “We have the drive, the competence and the work ethic to get there. Plus we have a CEO that has the GUTS and the GRIT.”
For now, she thinks that as an SME, the type of support she can expect the government can facilitate low-interest financing loan for them especially now that the government has vowed to ensure continued and sustainable growth through its One Town One Product-Philippines (OTOP-Philippines) program, which aims to promote entrepreneurship and create income opportunities for all, especially the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) like hers.
Caesar salad, homemade mayonnaise, homemade eggnog, cookies, and more are just some of the foodstuff that needs eggs as part of its ingredient. With their tagline: Quality Eggs delivered fresh, Lasac, envisions herself and her company as the source of eggs that complete such food items found in groceries and even served in your respective homes, “Who knows, the next cake you might buy around the corner may have been created courtesy of Goldnest’s Wonderful eggs.”
